Man arrested and over £50,000 hidden in a wheelie bin seized by GMP Response officers in Bury

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) Response officers in Bury arrested a 35 year-old man and recovered over £50,000 in cash from a wheelie bin in Bury last night (31 January 2024).

The arrest and seizure came after patrolling officers pulled a vehicle over on Walmersley Road in Bury. The driver made off from officers but was quickly detained following a short pursuit on foot.

The surrounding area was searched and two mobile phones were found along with over £50,000 in cash which had been concealed in a wheelie bin.

A 35 year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drug supply, money laundering and no insurance. He remains in custody at this time for questioning.

Chief Inspector Michael Barton: “This was a great result by GMP’s response officers in Bury overnight. I hope it demonstrates some of the fantastic proactive work our officers do to keep our communities safe from drug-related crime.”
